Genuine Tibetan Turquoise Pendant Necklace

Some of us love everything there is about turquoise. The color. The feel. The patterned matrix that holds a story. The way you can almost taste it.

Turquoise is so valued in the Tibetan culture, it’s common to see cracked or love-worn beads refashioned into new creations. That is likely the case with this Tibetan turquoise pendant.

Click on the smaller image below (click your “back” button to return here) and you’ll be able to see this turquoise had it’s origins as a bead. Look carefully and, beyond the dark matrix, you may be able to see the bead hole at the very bottom center of the bead.

Perhaps the top of the bead cracked with time and use. In any case, it has been converted into a pendant with a beautifully intricate wrap of sterling silver repousse.

The carving in the front is a traditional Snow Lion. I believe the back is meant to be a deer.

You can clearly see marks in the center where the silver was crimped tightly to the turquoise bead. For me, these are the sign of a human hand. It adds to my delight in the piece.

I’ve strung the Tibetan turquoise pendant with jet black onyx beads and finished with a tiny sterling silver hook and eye clasp.
