Flowers are so beautiful and pure it is said, "When the Buddhas want to give each other gifts, they give each other flowers."
Like all devotional practices, flower offerings transform the heart-mind of the giver as well as patrons and witnesses to the offerings. When I look through my camera, I'm not looking for flowers-as-objects. Not tulip, lily, or petal. I'm dropping into a state of communion, seeking the essence of the flower. For me, this is the Dakini, the dynamic feminine. I ask her to appear so that I may receive the blessings of her enlightened presence and shine them into the world through these images.
This is an ongoing project.
Images are printed on translucent kozo or vellum and illuminated by hand-applying 24K gold leaf.
