Invincible Light is a fine art project offering the gift of beauty to nourish and restore us in challenging times. The work expresses the boundless light that surrounds and infuses us.
To articulate this experience of incandescent reality behind and beyond the world of appearances, I make pigment prints on translucent vellum and illuminate the images by hand-applying 24K gold leaf.
I first experienced this light in a near-death vision after a traumatic brain injury. I thought I was dying. Then the universe poured in. I witnessed images of astounding beauty and had an indescribable feeling of wholeness. Even so, I returned to a body that felt cramped and too small for the radiance I'd encountered. I returned to a world I couldn’t comprehend, requiring years of rehabilitation.
But I never let go of the vision.
While the circumstances change, great happiness and deep pain are part of our human condition. Sometimes we uplift others with our light. Other times we need the sustaining power of beauty to carry us through. Invincible Light is an offering by and for those who insist on light when despair seems the inescapable path.
