"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom" ~Anais Nin
This series began as a personal project to honor the trans children in my circle of friends, and their parents. I want the young ones to know I see and believe in them. I support their parents as they navigate this unexpected new world with grace. One of the children lives in a blue state, and the others in blue enclaves in very red states. In addition to the deeply personal challenges of transitioning, I am concerned for their safety and the hate expressed so freely in these times. I want them to know I stand with them.
As the series progressed, I saw courage all around me. We are breaking through expectations and rigid structures to be true to ourselves and create a better world for others. This may look like baby steps or revolution, be invisible, or extremely public. We take the risk because the hope and the joy and freedom of opening outweigh the pain of staying closed.
"The Courage To Bloom" honors the brilliant beauty of a true self, whether boldly proclaimed or quietly whispered.
